Sam Beeton, No Definite Answer

Sam Beeton is the new matter, or so it says in so many words as I gaze crosswise another bubbling press spillage. But soft, this 19-year old isaac Bashevis Singer songwriter has got it going on brought up in a musical household, he has lived and breathed music since birth and been playing since he was 7. Still singing in his local pothouse, Beeton comes with the full weight of major record ship's company support; his Bebo, Facebook, MySpace ad pop-ups all pinging around, but scorn all this frippery, the glory of the well-written tune stands proud on his debut album.

Single and album unfastener, What You Look For, has been co-written with Eg White, fondly remembered as character of Eg and Alice, but as well recently the hand on the tiller of Duffy's Warwick Avenue and Adele's Chasing Pavements. The finish job shows. But it is non all well-nigh collaboration, as the oddment of the album is well written (by Beeton solely) and delivered pop, sweetly orchestrated.

Mocha Mocha is a corking pop individual, nothing more, nothing less. Sounding like a bemused gem from high-period Squeeze, it thematically develops the coffee-flavoured kisses of Last Train to Clarkesville. Finally Gone is Monkees, Beatles and Byrds in unrivaled rather big jangle and Best Friend, with its torch and twang overtones shows big promise, with a neat line in a chorus, ''You have always been my best friend, shallow and deep until the end''.

So, Sam Beeton is something of a find. Youth is where we are at again with Noah and The Whale and the soon-to-come Joe Devine, it is still something else to be danton True Young with a good tune, and No Definite Answer is crammed full of them.

Recreation And Park Agencies Play A Key Role In Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

When community leaders brainwave ways to improve the health and well-being of youth and families, a team ordinarily brings together doctors and health maintenance professionals, hospitals, public health organizations and schools. But recreation and park agencies are another key player in the fight against childhood corpulency, sedentary lifestyles, and chronic diseases says a new report.

"Community refreshment and rosa Parks is the health provider that you don't know about," says Andrew Mowen, Ph.D., lead author and associate professor of recreation and park management at Penn State. "Traditionally, these agencies ar considered as organizers of games and sports in a town's parks or ball fields. But our study shows that 9 out of 10 refreshment and park professionals ar actively tangled in a health partnership, sometimes several of them."

Mowen and his research team conducted a nationwide survey of over 1,two hundred recreation and park administrators, who were members of the National Recreation and Park Association. Also, in-depth interviews were completed with 16 recreation professionals crosswise the United States in order to understand key themes and issues for the survey.

"Twenty years agone, health care providers didn't consider recreation and mungo Park professionals to be a partner in the campaigns to promote health. But in the 1990s, community-based health partnerships were starting to see the theatrical role of diversion and rosa Parks in promoting physical action and calibre of life, since many related programs are offered by recreation and park managers," aforesaid Geoffrey Godbey, co-principal investigator of the study, and professor emeritus in the recreation, park and tourism management department.

The study set up that 88 percent said their arrangement was involved in a health partnership, with an average of four partnerships per agency. The about common partners were schools, public wellness agencies and non-profit organizations.

Municipal recreation and parks agencies provide access to low-cost facilities such as ball fields, parks and walking trails for programs, which are highly visible and well known to local residents. Such agencies already reach stunned to at-risk groups targeted in health campaigns such as children, older adults, low-income and minority families.

"Health campaigns naturally involve recreation and parking area departments because they provide low-cost, close-to-home opportunities for physical activity, such as trails, recreation centers, outdoor courts, and outdoor liquid facilities," says Mowen. "Parks, trails and recreation centers can likewise serve as settings for physical rehabilitation."

Successful partnerships were likely to show high levels of trust among partner agencies, a recognized need for the quislingism, administrative supporting, and staff empowerment. Common health partnership challenges let in a want of sow funding, communication and turf issues, and garnering total support from community stakeholders such as local government or schooling board members. Despite these barriers, subject field results suggest that small, rural refreshment and park departments ar increasingly interested in organism an active health partnership participant.

"Having facilities is critical, but so, programs as well have to be effected to fetch in residents and encourage them to take part," say Mowen. "Partnerships that include after-school programs, diet and nutritional information, and policy efforts to promote recreational settings should be encouraged. "

"The study was designed to provide service line information on the state of current health partnership practices inside the profession, their successes and their challenges," says the Penn State researcher. "Such info can be used to help a community effectively develop a program in health and physical activity promotion."

Other study authors are Laura Payne, University of Illinois, and Elizabeth Oresega-Smith, University of Delaware.

The study was sponsored by the National Recreation & Park Association and supported with a ulysses Simpson Grant from the National Recreation Foundation.

Closely allied with postindustrial dub terrorists such as Bill Laswell, Techno Animal, James Plotkin, Robert Musso, and Anton Fier, Birmingham-based artist Mick Harris is something of a subject area in extremes. A drummer with noted death metal outfit Napalm Death through the group's late-'80s/early-'90s efflorescence, Harris began experimenting with black and white ambient and dub styles toward the tail end of his association with that group. Releasing corporeal through Earache as Scorn (his ambient dub egis) and through Sentrax as Lull, in addition to former sporadic projects, his genre-spanning activities wealthy person done a great deal to jar the minds, expectations, and record collections of audiences previously unbroken sharply opposed. To the represent, Scorn and Lull, along with John Zorn's observational jazz-dubcore getup Painkiller cause remained Harris' chief on-going projects, although one-off collaborations with the likes of James Plotkin, Nicholas Bullen, Bill Laswell, and Martyn Bates are common. Harris formed Scorn in 1991 in collaboration with bassist Nick Bullen, incorporating elements of ambient, industrial, dub, rock and roll, and hip-hop. The chemical group (though pared back to exactly Harris following Evanescence) have released a number of increasingly well-received full-length recordings, including the remix LP Ellipsis, which features outward reworkings by the likes of Coil, Autechre, Laswell, and Germ. Harris' solo form as Lull focuses on darker, more "isolationist" ambient soundscapes, some of which get been reissued domestically by Laswell's now-defunct Subharmonic imprint. Walk of Fame Says Chimp's a Chump!

Legendary chimp thespian Cheeta's chance to have his name permanently etched on the Walk of Fame has just been shot down. What a load of ape dump!

The 76-year-old chimpanzee actor, who's starred in flicks like "Tarzan" and "Bedtime for Bonzo," didn't receive enough votes from the Walk of Fame Committee to have a star placed in his honor in '09.

If Cheeta's not good enough, who is?? Apparently Tinkerbell. That lame ass fairy is getting a star. And we're sure that has nothing to do with the fact that there's a Disney store on the Walk and the "Tinker Bell" movie is coming out in the fall.

Oh yeah -- and the Village People got one too.

Oprah Inspires Stanford Grads

Graduation is a memorable day for all college students, but for the 4,600 graduating students at Stanford University on Sunday, it was extra-special, as talk show queen and one-woman media empire Oprah Winfrey delivered an inspiring commencement address on Sunday.

"Feelings are really your GPS system for life," Oprah explained to the students, urging them to, "Check your ego at the door and check your gut instead... Every wrong decision was the result of me not listening to my voice. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it."

Conversely, said Oprah, "when you are doing the work you are meant to do, it feels right."

And while she pushed for the graduates to think of others, by saying, "To move forward, you have to give back," Oprah admitted that she learned the hard way that giving back also requires care and attention.

Speaking candidly to the crowd at Standford Stadium about the abuse scandal that rocked the girls' school she'd founded in South Africa, Oprah confessed that she focused too intently on superficial matters, like selecting bed linens, and not to the more important matters of staffing.

"I had been paying attention to all of the wrong things," Oprah admitted. "I built a school from the outside in, instead of from the inside out."

Oprah's decision to speak at Stanford wasn't motivated by money or publicity, but by family one of the graduating students was Kirby Bumpus, Oprah's goddaughter and daughter of her producer and constant companion Gayle King.

"I have pictures that I can e-mail to all of you of Kirby riding horsie with me on all fours," joked Oprah, conjuring up an image these student will likely never forget.

Unknown work by Janet Frame published

A previously unknown work by Janet Frame found after her death has been published in the latest edition of The New Yorker magazine.

A Night At The Opera was written when Frame was working as a live-in waitress at the former Grand Hotel, now the Southern Cross Hotel, in the Exchange, Dunedin, the Otago Daily Times reports today.

"It was found in her papers after her death," her niece, Pamela Gordon told the paper. "It was written about 1954, as far as we can tell."

Ms Gordon said Frame had a long-standing relationship with the US magazine.

"Janet had a lot of her work published in The New Yorker. She used to joke that she made more out of The New Yorker than she did from her book commissions."

Ms Gordon said the Janet Frame Literary Trust had many unpublished works by the author.

"We're still working our way through all her papers. But we think there's probably another book in it."

Janet Frame died on January 29, 2004, aged 79.
